PERSONAL SURVIVAL KITS

KIT 1

Hill People Gear

Nav:

Silva Ranger backup compass (Suunto MC/2G global compass carried on beltkit )

Garmin Inreach Mini 2 ( Satellite comms for text, SOS, and GPS )

Fire kit:

Sealed container of wet fire tablets, wrapped in rubber Ranger bands.

Inner tube rubber (amazing fire starter in heavy rain and damp conditions)

Exotac nano candle – burns for 4 hours ideal for drying out wet/damp tinder

Exotac firesleeve – protects Bic lighter, waterproofing and will float if dropped in river or sea.

Exotac Nanostriker XL instead of usual FireROD. Standard rods corrode in the tropical environment, the Nanostriker is an O- ring sealed unit complete with striker so will survive the jungle.

Knife Care:
DMT Fine/Coarse sharpening stone
Sharpie pen for aiding in keeping correct angle whilst sharpening blades.
Red Eyed Hog beeswax/bacon fat chapstick – this great little bit of kit rubbed on the blades keeps them from rusting, is foodsafe, can be used as cooking fat to grease your cook pot, or even as a back up tinder in fire lighting.

Signal:
Petzl E-Lite back up headtorch with strobe function.
Battery operated lightstick which when combined with a length of cordage becomes a “buzzsaw” – “poor man’s strobe” which can be seen for many miles in good conditions.

Tools:

Leatherman Signal- all the outdoor essential tools but none of the extra faff makes for a lighter handier multi tool.

Esee arrowhead, nice small back up cutting implement, back up striker for fire steels and improvised tip for spears.
